Oklahoma Faith Network: Letter to the Editor of the Oklahoman
This is a letter that my father-in-law posted on The Oklahoma Faith Network blog. As a conservative Christian, I do not see eye-to-eye on a multitude of issues with him. Contrary to his belief, Christians, more specifically, Christians of the conservative mindset are being discriminated against.
I have had many conversations with members of the so-called "Christian Left," and I find their beliefs to be quite disturbing. One is their belief on abortion. Their reference to Numbers 5 verse 13 as their justification on abortion is thinner than the air on top Mount Everest. They preach about social and economic justice and that Jesus Christ was a Liberal, well I emphatically disagree. I was taught to value the sanctity of life, and nowhere in my faith does any form of justification of abortion come into play. I believe that it should be used in only a few extreme situations (rape/incest, health of the women, and quality of life issues).
I fully support any effort to protect members of the Christian faith from undo discrimination from individuals whom do not have a set faith or see religious faith as offensive to them.
Surprisingly enough is that folks like my father-in-law are stone quiet when it comes to the plight of Christians in predominately Muslim countries.
J.
